What it is
Kids QR is an Android QR reader and creator for children ages 6-12 to use with a parent or guardian. A child can scan a QR with the camera, read one from a photo, or turn a short message into a QR picture. QR recognition and creation happen on the device.
A QR that holds a web address does not open directly. The child reads only text that a parent has checked and saved. It is free, with no ads and no account.
The problem it solves
QR codes are an entrance children meet often. Ordinary QR apps open the address straight in a browser, so a child lands on a page full of ads or other links without knowing where the code leads.
Kids QR does not open the address. A parent loads and reads the text first, and the child reads only the saved copy, so no new ad or link can pull them somewhere else.
Who it is for
- Children ages 6-12: kids who want to scan QR codes and make their own
- Parents and guardians: adults who want to see what a child will read before they read it
Core flow
- Scan: the child scans a QR with the camera or picks one from a photo.
- Parent check: a web address does not open. A parent enters a six-digit PIN, loads the text from the exact HTTPS address, reviews it, and saves it.
- Library: saved text is read in the library, with no internet needed.
- Create: the child types a short message and a QR picture appears. Saving the picture needs a parent check.
- Tidy up: a parent can delete approved items one by one or all at once.
Key features
- Camera QR reader: a flashlight helps in dim places.
- QR from a photo: reads only the photo you pick, without access to the whole photo library.
- Turn a message into a QR: the QR picture is saved after a parent check.
- Offline library: text a parent has approved can be read again without internet.
- Parent PIN: the app locks after repeated incorrect attempts.
- English, Korean and Japanese: follows the device language by default, and a parent can change it in settings. Saved text stays in its original language.
Product decisions
- Show the text, not the address. The child sees only the copy saved at approval. If the site changes afterward, the child's screen does not.
- Not a browser. Webpage pictures, videos and sign-in pages are not supported. Features were kept to what a parent can read through in full and judge.
- No promise to filter. The app does not classify harmful content automatically or block internet access in other apps. A parent checks whether the text suits the child.
- No sign-up. The PIN verification data and approved text stay on the device.
- Ask only for what is needed. The camera is requested only for scanning, and only the photos you pick are read, with no access to the whole library.
- Say what leaves the device. When a parent loads web text, the requested address and the IP go to that website.
Revenue model
Free, with no ads and no account. The first step is confirming that the parent check feels light enough to use and trustworthy enough to rely on.
Next hypotheses
- How many parents set a PIN, save a first text and reach the library.
- Whether children reopen saved text in the library.
- Where children use the QR codes they make, gathered from user feedback.
Contact and privacy
- Contact: parents and guardians can reach us on the contact page. Please do not send a child's name, photo, school, home address or the parent PIN.
- Privacy: there is no sign-up, so there is no account to delete. The PIN verification data and approved text stay on the device, and a parent can delete them one by one or all at once in the app. See the privacy policy for details.
