DeepThought is a browser mind map studio for reading annotated concept maps and forking them into your own drafts. Reading and editing are part of the same workflow.
Turn What You Read into Your Own Thinking
When a blank canvas feels daunting, start with a published map. Read the explanations and sources attached to its nodes, then fork it into your own draft. In the studio, you can revise the content, add branches, and publish the result as a link.
Main Features
- Read explanations: Explore relationships between topics and read each node’s explanations and sources.
- Edit with the keyboard: Add a child node with Tab, a sibling with Enter, and move a node up one level with Shift+Tab.
- Fork and publish: Copy a public map into your own draft, edit it, and share the finished map as a link.
- Import and export files: Import JSON and FreeMind files. Plus also lets you export JSON, FreeMind, PNG, and Markdown.
- Review a map: Plus can assess a draft against publication criteria. A model evaluates the criteria, while the interface presents guidance written in advance. You write and edit the text and map yourself.
Storage and Access
Drafts are stored in your browser; published maps are stored on the server. Public maps can be read without signing in. Editing, forking, and publishing in the studio require a Google account.
Reading, editing, publishing, sharing, importing, and forking are free. DeepThought Plus provides file exports, Markdown copying from the viewer, and map review. Credits used to unlock the detailed explanations in paid maps are separate from a Plus subscription.
What I Built
I implemented the canvas and editor without an external mind map library. Astro and React power the reading pages and studio, while Firebase handles sign-in and published maps. Reading pages are served as prerendered HTML so readers can reach them through search and shared links.
