Astera Privacy Policy
This English page is a machine translation of the Korean original, so some wording may read a little off.
Effective October 18, 2026
Astera is a sky map app without sign-up. It does not ask for a name, email address or phone number, and it does not create accounts. This page explains what the app keeps, where it keeps it, and what leaves the phone.
Kept only on the phone
- Observation log: object name, time, result, notes, and a place only when you choose to add it
- Predictions, observations and summaries written in activities
- Display settings and the chosen place
This data stays in the app's private storage and is never sent to a server. It is excluded from Android backups. "Delete all data" in settings, or uninstalling the app, removes it. "Export" in the log tab only hands the log as text to an app you choose.
Location
With your permission the app reads an approximate location, rounds it to about 1 km and uses it only to compute the sky. The location is never sent to a server. Without permission you can pick a city and use every feature. Whether a log entry keeps a place is your choice each time.
What leaves the phone
- Crash reports (Firebase Crashlytics, Google): when the app crashes it sends the error, device model, Android and app versions and a per-install identifier. They are used only to find and fix defects and are kept by Google for 90 days. You can turn this off in settings.
- Usage statistics (Google Analytics for Firebase, Google): only if you agree on the first-run notice, the app sends which screens you open, how long you use the app, the device model, Android and app versions, your approximate country and a per-install identifier. They are used only to see which features are used and what needs fixing. No advertising identifier is collected, and Google keeps the data for up to 14 months. You can turn this off with "Send Usage Statistics" in Settings.
- Content switch (Firebase Remote Config, Google): every few hours the app fetches a setting that lets us hide a wrong explanation without an app update. The Firebase installation identifier is sent with that request.
- Update checks (Google Play in-app updates, Google): The app asks the Play Store app on your phone whether a new version is available. To check, the Play Store sends the app version and device information to Google. This process is subject to the Google Play Terms of Service. Your location and observation logs are not used.
No advertising, no selling or sharing of data with other companies. All transfers are encrypted.
Permissions
The app asks for approximate location only. Orientation sensors need no permission and their readings are used only to draw the map.
Children and students
Astera is designed to be usable in class. It collects no personal information such as names or contact details and shows no ads.
Changes
If the data handled by the app changes, this page is updated first with a new effective date.
