Transferring Android and iOS Apps to Another Account

Before you can request an Android or iOS app transfer, the receiving account has to be registered as a developer account first. That registration alone sometimes takes over a week, so it is worth starting well before the date you need the transfer done.

On iOS the transfer completed as soon as I submitted the request. Android says it answers within two business days, but in practice mine finished within a few hours.

Android

Switching accounts partway through the Android flow is awkward, so look up the receiving account’s details and its transaction ID before you start.

  1. Open App transfer in the Google Play Console.

  2. Choose the menu for transferring an app to another account.

  3. On the request form, enter the current owner name (the current publisher name), the new owner’s email, and the transaction ID.

  • The transaction ID appears in the email you received after registering and paying for the Android developer account.
  • If you cannot find that email, Google Payments1 shows the transaction ID under the entry below.
  1. Filling everything in completes the request2.

Once you have completed the steps above, you are ready to submit your transfer request. Google support will review it and respond within two business days.

iOS

On iOS, barring problems, the transfer finished almost immediately: about three minutes in my case. Before submitting, you have to remove every tester registered in TestFlight along with any builds still available to them. Judging by the transfer step alone, iOS was the easier of the two.

  1. Sign in to App Store Connect3 with the owner account.

  2. Select the app you want to transfer.

  3. Under General, choose App Information.

  4. At the bottom, under Additional Information, select Transfer App.

  5. If anything falls short of the eligibility criteria, resolve it and submit again.

  6. Enter the receiving account’s Apple ID and Team ID, then continue.

  7. Review the terms and click Request Transfer.
